thanks...I was just wanting to see what the policies were in Muir right now...if it was my land, I'd make everyone, except authorized users, stay on the designated trails...

for other places in the gorge, is there any established protocol, or is it still the wild west?

i'd say: like anywhere, minimize your impact. there doesn't need to be any true bushwhacking. leave only footprints (sorry, i'm kind of a lnt nut)

Bushwacking can be sooooo worth it.
That crack is squeaky clean yet still awaits a clean ascent.
The flake is one of 3 footholds on the route.

Overhanging hands. The crux is the first 15 feet, but you don't get a rest until 15 feet from the top.
