WTF? Are you his press agent?
And for the record, as a group, the biggest asses I have run into are usually 5.9 -5.10 trad-only climbers.

hey, brilliant minds think alike. think about it....gumbies despising elitist, hard core climbers is no more cool than hard climbers looking down on gumbies...It never ceases to amaze me..the things we supposedly hate in others somehow shows up in our own thoughts...
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
it's my wife posting this evening...
no inference was made to you and alan, unless you like to connect the dots....
gumby is just as much a state of mind as it is how hard one climbs. you know the scene..the 5.9 climber fresh out of the gym, spraying to his drinking buddies about his hard climbs, in blue jeans and cowboy boots. or the dude who has read all the latest gossip in the rags, and spews forth at the crag. or the chick who brings her dog, unleashes it and assumes we all love it as much as she does. or the poser who forgets to smoke downwind from the crowd. or the spraylord who says "I did that climb", when in reality they toproped it or hung 15 times on it. or the guy who tries to teach his girlfriend how to belay at the crag whole he tries his hardest climb ever...get the idea? all are gumbies....

hahaha....Kiribell, I can't stop laughing! Good rant! All those 5.13, 5.14 climbers had to start as noobs at somepoint and if there wasn't someone there to encourage them then there'd obviously be no "elite" climbers today. And it's definitely worth going to the crag to watch the better climbers and learn from their movements. Climbing has so many elements that all combine together, making it a very attractive way to spend time - the challenge, the sense of accomplishment after a goal has been reached, the butterflies that invade your stomach as you stare up at your next project.... fun stuff, indeed!
I think one of the coolest things about climbing the fact that you could be climbing next to or hanging out with an *elite* level climber and maybe not even know it. I think it is funny that people think if you climb hard, you have a posse or whatever. Hell, Ynot probably has more of a Posse on any given day then any of the 5.13 or 5.14 climbers around here.
