I just did RSA this weekend in the dark, and the trail is in really bad shape, especially the scramble. Lets get it done! Soon.

I agree that the scramble should be blocked off and that a trail should be re-routed to come up over by Five Finger and maybe skirt the wall toward the 10 wall.

It appears as though a trail heading over to 5 finger discount has already been started. I'm in...name the day and time.

IF we could sucessfully re-route the trail and block off the scramble that would be great. To keep people from using the scramble would be key. It would be better and eaiser to re-route than to build a freakin' staircase up to the base of the Attraction. The base below Moth needs shoring up too. Maybe after the holidays we can get on this, definately before the busy spring season.

The ground is frozen.

Well at least something is holding the base of that crag in place.

I think the idea is not to move dirt, but to keep it from moving any more. It wouldn't matter if the ground was frozen if all we were doing was re-routing some trails and blocking off that scramble up to the base of the Attraction. Besides there will be several 60 degree days come January....we're in KY afterall.

Great all!
I think we have to consider that if a trail went to 5 Finger and then over, then you would have passer-bys along a narrow walkway. It might be better to have both accesses. I don't think there would be any compliance if there was a trail to 5 Finger and and attempt to block off a direct route up to RA. I think with effort, there is a reasonable way to connect RA to the trail.

I am dubious that the direct approach up the jumble down to RA can be preserved without a lot of work. The steepness of the grade and the already loss of soil concretion holding the blocks together is too precarious. The only way I see would be to build a staircase over it. Mega project! All the dead fall already over it have almost closed it down. Couldn't we help it out a little with some more obsticles and reroute?

I'm in agreeance with the both you you two...hmmm. It would be hard to keep people from walking straight up to RA, but it would also be quite a project to 'build' any thing up to RA. I would recomend using old rope to tie from tree to tree as a caution tape sort of thing, but someone would take it and climb on it. We could get ahold of some of that crime scene tape to mark off the area that we want to keep people out of...that would be funny. If there was a way to keep the standard approach open (with minimal work) and shore up the base from Jump4Joy past 5Finger that would be great. Maybe try that and if in a year or more things keep deteriorating then go back and close the direct approach up to RA.

I say we rip all the rock and dirt from the base of RA and level it down to the trail...that way we can add about 20 feet of height to all of those climbs.
