Hey, JB, have her read Some edward abby immediatly after finishing atlas. Its sort of like jumping into the snow after being in the hot tub, or visa versa.

I read Herman Hesse's Glass Bead Game a few years ago. It is excellent. . . A long one so if you are looking for a project, it might do the trick. . . However it isn't humorous.
Most recently I really enjoyed Barbara Kingsolvers Prodigal Summer and Poisonwood bible.
Has any body else read these?

Muao! I've read both of those and they are AWESOME!!!! They are both so informative as well as very entertaining. Good call on the Kingsolver, she's great.

I've started on Kurt Vonnegut's Sirens of Titan, and I'm really liking it so far.

gosh what a coincidence, i just talked to my dad this afternoon and he mentioned the hitchhiker books. he loved them, i'll have to check them out. one of my favorite authors is bill bryson, his books "in a sunburned country" and "a walk in the woods" are excellent fun reads.

The Hitchiker's books aren't a 'series' they're a trilogy! All five of them! (or at least the first four) I hurt myself when I read Hitchiker's - major ab soreness from laughing.
As my girlfirend and I drive somewhere and she feels the need to talk constantly, I think of the thing in Hitchiker's about the super inteligent, super creative race who made all thier neighbors sick. Being super inteligent, this race didn't make a lot of small talk or chatter. The neighbors got all pissed off and decided to punish them. If they ever stopped talking everyone around them would be able to read their thoughts. They quickly descened into ruin. (Just think of how Adams would have reacted to the sub-class of humanity who use 98% of all cell phone time yaking about nothing loudly in public)
