longlegs...SHE chose this setup, not me..you are a typical lazy ass woman, assuming that we have our roles based on some throwback mentality...geesh, at least get into the 90's. my wife loves to cook, and wouldn't have the roles any other way. kitchen time is therapy time for her.

piggie, i'd say she has it about right.
she gets all the fun thearpy and creation and you get stuck with the clean-up, sucka!

I stayed in bed today with a sore throat, headache, ear ache, aching muscles, etc. I could barely swallow or talk. At about 11:30 I was still in bed and Karla came home from work during her lunchbreak. She fixed me some chicken and noodle soup and brought sore throat drops and vitamins! What a lucky guy I am! I feel better already.

You are a lucky guy. No one likes to be sick but when you have someone taking care of you it makes it a whooooole lot easier.

Thai fish sauce is actually fermented fish that is reduced. It is one of the foulest smelling liquids known to mankind but used in the appropriate dishes it becomes a wonderfully complex flavor. I had a bottle explode in my backpack one time (when flying home from Thailand) and it took two years to get the smell out. (I'm so cheap I wouldn't throw the bag out.)
this is a good thread! love your recipes and I'm going to try a couple...
This weekend I made Green chile and pork tamales.
10-12 roasted tomatilloes
2 tbs garlic
2 coarsely chopped jalapenos (or peppers of your choice)
Puree in blender
heat 1 tbs olive oil until nearly smoking and introduce puree. add 1 cup chicken broth and simmer until it coats the spoon. Add previously grilled and shredded pork (or chicken) and 2 tbs of fresh cilantro. allow to cool to room temp.
for the tamales: 2 cups of mesaca (mexican corn meal)
2 cups of luke warm water
1 tsp of baking powder
mix with fluffed 2/3 cup shortening or lard.
in each corn husk, spoon 2 tbs of corn mixture with 1 tbs of green chile/pork. tie off corn husk and steam for 1.25 hours. allow to cool to room temp.
SERVE WITH HOT SAUCE.

Well, I know why he thought he felt better already! Sick boy here ate all 18 lozenges and half a dozen vitamin C drops in 2 hours! No sympathy for him when he started complaining about a tummy ache last night....
Oh, and to get this thread back in gear, he did help make some treats last night: BOURBON BALLS! Since we couldn't wait on Steve to give us the recipe

, we looked it up:
1 c powdered sugar
1 c finely chopped pecans
1 c finely crushed vanilla wafers
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 1/2 tbsp light corn syrup
2 oz bourbon
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix corn syrup and bourbon. Stir in bourbon mix to dry mixture. Refrigerate for an hour or so. Form into balls and roll in powdered sugar. Store leftovers (???) in a tight container in refrigerator. Makes about 30 balls.
*Tips: Sprinkle powdered sugar in bottom of container and shake to re-coat balls whenever you think about it. Also if you combine some OJ concentrate, rum and dipping chocolate, you can coat the balls with this instead of just rolling them in powdered sugar.
