if you are down in ATL you should definetly check out boat rock.

I would not drive 10 hours just to see the place as has been said before it aint HP40 or Little Rock City.

But it is nice bouldering 20 minutes from a city of almost 5 million people... a little urban oasis of rock... a nice forested ridgeline of granite eggs.

this year we have the backside area in the comp.. so we have a mile plus of boulders and hundreds of problems.

yes, the freeking developers have had a field day blowing up boulders and wreeking havoc.

But.. The local climbers have stood tall.. and saved over 12.3 acres that we own and are paying the mortgage.

We hold the comp for fun and to help pay off the mortgage. Come on down as you are all welcome.. to our little boulder garden.

check out www.seclimbers.org for more info or email me at mbmcleod@mindspring.com

thanks for your support of our area!

Thanks for the information Brad. We'll be in the area for a day staying with friends in Atlanta... We are looking forward to checking out Boat Rock for a day and climbing in a new area on some granite boulders. Best of luck! I've heard that the Yellow Arete is a must do! Can't wait to feel the technical and textured granite on my fingertips... ahh...

I just wanted to finish this thread even though it's dead.

We ended up going to Atlanta Rocks (atlantarocks.com) one of the days we were down there. I thought their facility was really nice but the quality just wasn't there. It was also a bit expensive, $40+ for two people for the day not to mention a less than helpful staff. It looks really nice when you first look at it but most of the routes are beginner with only a handful of the ~100(?) routes in the 10+ range. It was also hard to follow the routes since they weren't marked in any way except for using the same colored holds which is fine until you start putting routes together that have similar colors. All in all, the quality of the routes was also pretty low with a lot of mindless tracking. I'd give it about a C+ rating overall. Not bad if you're hard up but there have got to be better things around.
