I started climbing by sport rappelling, too. It was fun, but had to get back up to the top somehow. Once I started climbing, why do anything else. Now I rap to get down so I can climb it again!
Berea is a good spot - at the Pinnacles. It's also called Indian Fort Theater. Not usually crowded either, just some hikers.
Is there a place called Eagles nest? I was someplace in the gorge - Eagle something - rappelling. It had a really long drop, probably 200 feet. There was a guy who had to be on drugs rappelling off a smaller cliff onto a grassy, sloped area. I say he had to be on drugs because he came running toward the edge, flew off if and didn't brake, smashed into the ground and we all thought he was dead. Before we could get over to him, he started moving and laughing. He got up, stumbled around a while and didn't rap any more. Idiot!
Wherever you rappel, have fun.
Rappelling
Dude, that's similar to the approach to Gray's Arch. You can take the Martin's Fork Trail past Military Wall. They probably rapped off the arch and then the rock climbers got blamed for it.

When I climbed Foxfire there were sport rappellers with several fixed static lines. It was probably a 200' drop. I asked if I could rap off and they told me it would be too dangerous for me to do so. After I explained that my partner and I had just climbed to the top of the cliff (and that we knew what we were doing) this dude still told me I couldn't rappel because I was lacking the necessary leather gloves. Dumbass. I asked another guy, who answered "Sure, no problem", then clipped in and rapped off one of their other ropes.
