Pig - I'm very offended by smoking. I rarely go to bars because of it. You have an opinion and I have one, but the bottom line is, smoking is detrimental to health. That's not an opinion, it's a fact.

Back in the 50's doctors sent pregnant women home with the prescription of kick your feet up, have a martini & a smoke, relax. Just think about the number of baby boomers that were born under these directives.......

Let's just say I had a very European pregancy and a very healthy one at that.

I have always tried to be a courteous smoker. It's my hobby.
Just genuinely disengenuous.

who is arguing the "fact"..of course it is.

let me see if I have this right...smoke weed illegally at miguel's, drink illegally at Miguel's, but by god of you smoke a legal cigarette inside....is there something wrong with this picture?

too much alcohol is detrimental to ones health, but there are no laws against being a drunk.

too much McDonald's is bad for ones health, but there are no laws against eating fries every night..o wait, if Sprag has her way there will be....
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.

So you drank and smoked through your pregnancy even knowing all the health risks your child could suffer from it?

What was your reason? Because you honestly believed in the point of view of the doctors in the 50's or because you just didn't want to give up your vices?

Not meaing to interogate you but that just floors me.

Hey Pig,
all these things have major consequences if they cause the user to infringe upon a non user's rights, except the McD's thing. The point being, if you want to kill yourself (legally or illegally) COOL! Just do it on your own time in your own space and don't try to take me down with you.

...quitting drinking is kinda like washing your hands after you take a crap...why start now?

pigsteak wrote:artsay...but let me ask you this...here we are , with smoking legal in establishments...in the last ten yers, I can think of only a handful of times that I felt "offended" by smokers. I can think of many more times when the drunk in the bar was offending me with his behavior and loud mouth.
Like Sik already mentioned, the ban is more to protect the employees of such establishments who have to work all day/night around second-hand smoke.

I agree with air_canada. I hate feeling gross the next day from smoke in my hair, clothes, and lungs.

Courteous smoking?! I don't think you can do that inside. If you're outside, get way downwind, if you don't mind. Catching a wiff of cigarette smoke, or weed, is nasty.
Come to think of it, you can smoke outside at Miguels, but not inside. If there was, there's a pretty good chance I wouldn't eat there. And my health has never been affected by someone else drinking.

Yes, fries should be outlawed (IMO) but if I eat them, will it affect your health? If I drink a beer, will YOU get drunk if you stand next to me? NO. I don't smoke anything and want to keep healthy lungs. The majority thought the same about this little fact of smoking affecting more than just the one who lit up.

Gretchen: Remember your pregnancy when your kid at age maybe 9 decides he wants to start smoking. Since he's already addicted, you should buy him cartons of his favorite for his birthday. Man, talk about restricting choices!

Not yet...plenty of people out there who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers
