While in the crux of a project..."Can you lock off for a second? I have the grigri backwards"

i know some people are really lax about checking things over before they leave the ground, but really you should at least glance at your belayer and make sure the grigri is set correctly.
BTW i'm not just talking about you Yn'C, i have seen several folks get into situations like this.

It was correct, my belayer was just giving me a hard time.

Mia caught me at the third bolt of Pulling Pockets. She kept me from hitting the ground and almost wore me like a hat. Good girl baby!

I don't think anything in my post indicated that the belayer should've done something. It was all a matter of telling her response and explaining why so much rope was out that he hit the ground (he was pulling slack, he weighed a lot more than the belayer and the belay device allowed a little more rope to go through, maybe on the last one).

spuzo's post mentioned a serious belayer mistake...

it's a team effort when it come to route climbing. if my belayer threads the gri gri backwards and I deck it was just as much my fault as it was the belayers...we BOTH have to double check each other.
if this isn't obvious to everyone then there needs to be a serious belay seminar at the Red!
other climbing/belay accidents such as hard catches(coming into the wall hard) and blowing a clip and decking, etc, are just part of the climbing game..we take those risks every time we climb.

"Dude your off" - after my dumb ass back clipped the first bolt on Fast food Christians and the rope came out of the beaner while I was trying to clip the second. Everyone on the ground got a good laugh and lesson on the dangers of backclipping. Good thing the climb goes 5.7 after the opening crux.
