There's college and then there's higher education.
You get out of it what you want and if you didn't get anything out of it
then you must not have wanted anything.
And if you didn't want anything, why did you bother?
I guess it's difficult spending your life
unable to hold more than one opposing idea
in your head at once.
Sad, really.
Also sad that people who would dis Buddhism
would partake of climbing,
one of the shortest routes to a Zen state.
You know not of what you speak
so you are kind of embarrassing the rest of us.

Several of my best friends are high school drop outs. Mostly becaue they were a) misfits and b) smarter than their teachers and bored senseless.
Oddly enough they've all been junkies at some point. I just realized that fact so I'll have to think about the "why's."
They're also people that enjoy playing with words and making fun of Christians.
Heh heh. Had to throw that in.

I don't agree. Many jobs that are truley skills based, like IT, having a degree isn't so important. Some of the smartest people I know didn't go to collage. Some of the most respected as well. That said, I have been pondering going back to school, to get the BS degree, so that I can teach.dirt wrote:get an education...no original idea that you come up with will be taken seriously if you have not paid your educational dues.....

Soon Walmart will be the only business left in the country. You will either be with Walmart or against them and if you're against them you'll be ground up as cow feed for McDonald's (a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart).

Read some of it one day in Lander, wish I had time to finish it. Also wish I would have had a chance to do something like this when I was in HS.
On a side note, I think if I ever have kids and it is workable, I would home school them at least untill HS, then let the decide which way they want to go.

A couple of points about Ho's original comment:
I don't think that everyone here is talking shit about ALL Christians. Most of the comments I've noticed seem to deal with a subset of them - the evangelical/fundamentalist/conservative types. There are plenty of 'good' Christians, and I don't think that people are taking much smack about them, in particular.
I'm not sure about this whole assumption of 'open mindedness'. I'm familiar with what people assume that means, and that it's assumed to be a 'good thing'. But what is it really supposed to mean? This isn't hard science where 'data is data' and you just have to deal with it at face value. People have experience and need to apply that to the world they face - you aren't going to get much done if you approach EVERYTHING as a tablura rasa.
While there are lots of valid complaints to be made about, say, fundamentalist Muslims, they aren't much of a problem in our day to day American (or Canadian) lives. If this was an Iranian climbing forum, we'd all be bitching about Islam. But here in the States, right-wing Christians (not ALL Christians) have been a big part of all sorts of problems throughout US history (witch hunts, slavery, sexism, anti-semitism, anti-immigrant violence, civil war, 'red' paranoia) and lots of contemporary problems (homophobia, racism, income disparity, availability of women's healthcare, invading other countries). So it shouldn't be a big surprise that people complain about them. Again, that wouldn't justify complaining about ALL Christians. But it's the right-wing/evangelical/fundamentalist Christians who are out messing with people, so they attract criticism.
