SD tents are plenty durable. I've had a clip flashlight since the first year they were out. It's still my primary tent and it's been used for about 8 years now I think.

Eureka makes a good tent. If there are lighter or less expensive 3 season double wall backpacking tents out there, I haven't found them, and I've been looking. I have a 3-man Apex that goes at 7lb 3oz for $130, a two man Alpine that goes at 4lb 10 oz for $100, and a 1 man Solitare that goes at 3lb 10oz for $80. Those weights include extra stakes and guy ropes, but the prices do not include footprints. I just use 6 mil visqueen, $20 for a 20' x 100' roll.

Mountain equipment co-op has good tents for not a lot of $.plus you pay in canadian money which is sort of like play money.

I have the same tent as well and the friend who helped me pick it out pointed out all the ways it's better than the NF tent. I can't remember the details, but I was sold. It is a great tent - did you seal yours?

It's actually very tame compared to previous freaky fridays, but glad to know what you do alone on a backpacking trip.

yeah i sealed the floor seams. last couple times i've used it i didn't have a ground cloth and though it isn't good for the tent, but it still kept me totally dry.
