This is yet another example of the commercialization of climbing, a subject that has a life of it's own and I have been preaching about for sometime. It tends to make some climbers uncomfortable and it should. It IS all about image and this is where there is an interesting dilemna to ponder, how does the image of climbers affect access. The "dirty, smelly, hippie" climber image was a large part of why the State of Ohio closed Clifton Gorge to rock climbing. Do you think the "bolt war outlaw" image on the front page of the Wall Street Journal did any service to the cause of access?
I don't have any less respect for Tori than I do for Beth Rodden or Katie Brown. The amount of pressure put on these young ladies due to the commercialization of climbing is enormous and they have each dealt with it in their own way. Before you criticize Tori because of the more blatant effect of commercialization you might want to check out her site more. She, in fact, has links to the RRGCC and to Solid Rock Climbers for Christ. The review of her new book
http://fearlessbooks.com/ReviewsPage6.html and the article which she wrote
http://www.sportingkid.com/?showfull=y&topic_id=638 are both enlightening.

I believe that if you can make money and do the thing that you love.......Then go for it. Would you rather her put in 40 hours a week and make her money in a more traditional way? Don't get me wrong. I haven't heard too many good things about ms. Allens attitude. But on the same note, I haven't heard too many good things about me either.
Judge not lest yee be judged, by the same measure that you judged you will be judged.
I think it's great she can make money while recreating.Go for it TORI!!!

Tori Allen Action Figure - $10.00, "Pilgrimage" DVD w/Katie Brown - $29.95, plane ticket to fly to Denver, attend Access Fund Summit, see premiere of "The First Couple of Rock", and talk to Beth Rodden - $311.00, J.H. and CS in agreement on something - priceless!

pigsteak is with JH on this one....C Griffith makes poser clothing called Verve so he can maintain a lifestyle. Do you own any of it? Then you are part of the problem.
Prana has transferred their market of yoga into climbing. Do you own any Prana? Then you are part of it.
Ever see the PowerBar poster child Hans Florine in media pictures? You eat that crap? Part of the problem.
All sponsored climber have to wear/use specific equipment, and never be caught in a competittor's stuff. You think Sharma & Graham pay for all those Prana shirts? Think Rodden pays for her Petzl draws?
Do you buy gear?..then you subsidize it all, and are part of the problem.
If you are pissed, you are just jealous.
Why do we love to hate others? Crass commercialism?....get over it people. Bet none of you own North Face, Sierra Design, or Mountain Hardwear tents...lmao..

I would have no problem being a whore for the gear industry. In fact, I feel as though I SHOULD be sponsered by all the cool companies. The reason? Because Sharma can do v10 in flip-flops and I need all the help I can get to do v4.

I never said I hated anyone for it. I don't have that much energy to expend on them. I've met Tori and she seems like a nice girl. Her family is awesome.
Quite simply, I respect the hell out of Katie. She's done a lot for the Red and shies from having a Katie Brown action figure. Yeah, I'll say it, I personally think the action figure is dumb as hell and I'll be damned if I'll climb with someone else's monkey swinging from my ass. But more power to Tori if people are fond enough of her to buy into it.

Hey Spragwa would you climb with a small stuffed version of Dakota swinging from your ass?
