A bunch of tourists may get uncomfortable at any of us climbing roped and taking whips in front of them. It's all a sliding scale.
i love it

do you use that one too in your basement training program? you're like one of those crazy brits training for offwidth, except you're working on climbing up and down a little pole.

Fair assessment doc. At least I'll look strong at rocktoberfest.

I think guys like Bachar and Hannold are impressive, but I still don't make the link between impressive and admirable. I know Hannold often comments about how his mom supports what he does, but I know that she would miss him if anything ever broke on him and the crap happens rule occurred while he was soloing. I am sure that Bachar's family misses him daily.
I am impressed with the soloing of Chainsaw, but I still don't see it as admirable (and less so because it is a sport route).
My son is about to turn three, and is already doing some bouldering with me. I will instill it in him that I will consider him a fool for soloing, and will miss him greatly if he ever died from it. (Seriously, it brings tears to my eyes to even consider him dying from a free soling death incident). I wish that at my death the visitation will be a celebration of the life I had, not a mourning of a life cut short from foolish actions.

I don't think he even "soloed" Chainsaw... just climbed up for the pose sesh before any of the "harder" moves then downclimbed. In any case it's not really very impressive or admirable, although the spraying down about it has quite the opposite effect.
