/devil's advocate

So as we all know, he sits there and see everything that goes on. When climbers arrive, and when they leave. And he goes back and forth to somewhere periodically during the day. I find it interesting how the break-ins happen during the times when he leaves..

I'm not accusing this guy of anything, but anything is possible. I would like to think that his presence is a deterrent to the thefts, but we really have no way of knowing, do we?

No, except that he said he's been living there for years, and the onslaught of break-ins has been fairly recent, hasn't it? I know cars have been getting broken into for years at the Red, but I was under the impression that it's been getting worse lately.

He's doing his master's thesis on the "recreational habits of humans".Just like Jane Goodall! Other people say they have seen him at other places, just sitting there. Those are his controls.

Yasmeen, as I understand the situation, the rash of break-ins in past years was completely stopped a couple of years ago (at least) when they caught the crew of assholes responsible. The same assholes that ripped off a pile of gear from my husband's truck a while back, but I digress... I haven't heard about any break-ins at all until the recently reported one(s?) at Roadside, this summer.

Is that accurate, folks?

Again, I'm not accusing this old gentleman of anything. I don't blindly trust that he is a saint, though... It is possible that he is watching people for purposes other than his thesis study. Perhaps to aid whoever is ripping people off. It is also possible that his presence is deterring the thiefs from being more successful, as we would all like to believe. How can we know for sure either way?

We could set several remote control cameras and film him or sit across the road in the grass all day and observe the observer while everyone else is climbing.....
I am intrigued by the Jane Goodall theory...what stories he could tell...I will play the chimp that pulls termites out with the twig.

Uh, wouldn't the cameras solve the problem by catching the acutal theives themselves?
