Didn't the MV already have a name prior to the Weber's owning it? Why not keep it?

I can't believe more people don't think it is kind of Ironic. Maybe there should have been a third choice, "Don't Care, But is Kind of Ironic". I really didn't think anybody would really care, so that is what the Kind of Ironic choice was ment to be. Oh well...

As for Pendergrass-Murry... Did those previous owners give us a deal on the land and that is why we named it after them (I really don't know anything about the agreements, but would like to know)? I could understand and respect honoring them if they did! But, it is like buying a house. Just because somebody sold me their house, doesn't mean I should put a sign in my front yard to honor them, does it?

ynp1 wrote:I think a better name for the valley would be Pinchot Valley. Gifford Pinchot, was a national leader in the conservation movement. Pinchot was the first head of the United States Forest Service and a leading spokesman for the sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of the people.
The idea behind the forest service was (and still is) to set aside resources (i.e., trees) for us to log and use. So, when the Webers decide to implement hunting management and clear-cut parts of their valley to sell to logging companies, they can re-name it to "Pinchot Valley".
ynp1 wrote:The Webers are managing their land as conservationist, NOT preservation like John Muir believed in.
I'd say it's closer to the latter than the former. Don't forget that the valley functions as a nature preserve as well.

Besides, Muir was a rock climber. That should be enough, right?

Hey Matt, I am Greg....or at least that what most poeple call me....

I was trying to make two points:

1. They can name it what ever they want. (I think they tell us on their web, but I just assume John inspired them and.... that is good enough for me.)

2. The second point is lables are generalized to have inherant meaning/substance that is understood by all and have a objective reality.

He is a jew, she is black, he is Ni--er, he was a preservationist, she is a conservatinist. One - it is not that simple, two.....it is just a lable.....think of how many people have been persecuted, killed, etc because....he or she is (=) an X ?

Questioning the webers....8 or nine years after the fact.....call it "Disneyland", "Fairyland', call it random ....."P235Xy78q"....it really is inmaterial.

Foolish, ....thinking the message gets translated effeciently (my another biocomputer......i meant no offence to you....

generalizing lables....pet pieve (sp?)

One of my wife's cat's....names is Gabriel.....Biblical.......I kinda doubt the label is that relavent to the organisim.....Maybe more so to the wife?.....its just a cat to me, fat, lazy, kinda cute but......

If we are nit-picking and all...

ha. i almost deleted mine too as i've met Greg and he's nice enough. plus i don't really care if he can spell or not (spoiler alert: he can't). but if the hardliners begin softening up the internet, then people might start using it for civil discourse.

we must never let that happen...

you suck. l2play. etc.
