I think the general consensus is that the rock is too steep to support most of the falls, if there is enough runoff and cold temps to get the ice flowing in the first place. Although, you may get lucky here and there.

Roadcuts are the preferred ice climbing in KY. A sweet FA was done last year just south of Cincinnati.
Ahhh the great ice expedition of 2010.... Nothing we found was climeable, but lots of potential. There are some good pictures posted in a thread of some excellent lines out at solar collector. But it despite the long cold streak nothing touched the ground. There is no reliable ice in the red that we know of....
I've been a gumby longer than you've been climbing.

this might be the year... winter came a little early with super cold temps and precipitation, allowing for a early base of ice for the flows to grow. some of the last year 'almost in' routes may make it this season. oh ice, how you forever change.

are these looking good? may head that way early wed or thur if so, depending on the weather. went out to the 'usual' spots around grayson lake yesterday and found very little ice 'in', but also have never seen everything so built up this early in the season.

I'm not sure what the weather was like in the Red, but the line here was actually climbable before the last weather event, but what was supposed to be snow and cold turned out to be a slushy sleet with 40 degrees here in Pikeville, and totally screwed up the ice. There is still a nice thick core of ice, but now has a 6 inch covering of very pourous, soft ice that will need to melt away before it is climb worthy.

I really haven't seen anything yet as I've been out looking. We have the potential for some good falls here at the camp but the water is still flowing too fast and the air temps are too warm. We need several days of single digit temps before there is even a chance of any good ice forming, at least here where I'm at.

Indiana is looking solid, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u682mZcv4A4 I wonder if you can ice climb at Hemlock Cliffs (not where the video was taken, it was on private property), does anybody know? I know you can rockclimb there except for the area where the largest waterfall is at, something about endangered fern being at the top.

Hiked all of hemlock yesterday. Nothing there to see yet, except a few short thin lines through moss and dirt... there's definitely potential for a few decent flows later in the season, not worth a long drive unless you're in the area.
