Thanks Rick for all you do for our community! This is exactly the reason I love Muir Valley for climbing. Stephanie--great work. Can we have a litter kept in southern region like they do at Seneca or is there some legal concern, etc.? Due to having those supplies at Seneca, basically everyone on the rock one day got all gear together and got a girl down and ready to go in helicopter by time it arrived.

That idea we've pondered over for certain. I have an idea I can pursue and giving Lee County a litter is not a bad idea either. Storing something in the southern region, especially Coal Bank is a bit difficult because as you all know, break ins and vandalism are common. We had our kiosk hacked, cars violated, and our welcome sign nearly demolished

Is this PMRP emergency map a download somewhere on this site for all of us to be aware of?

Just remember that "Lee County" includes several agencies. As Tri-Community VFD is the closest station (red bldg across from Koops), has three trained rope rescue techs, and has arrived early for the recent incidents, I would suggest considering them for your litter donation.

As for your vandalism problems, consider a wildlife camera. Ours are camouflaged and use motion detection and undetectable infrared lighting at night. Plus they get some great wildlife pix.

Just suggestions...

I think those are good suggestions. I know out west on the Arkansas River where they raft and kayack, there are back boards/litters tied to trees every mile, but at the Red, they would get stolen. Getting a litter to the Lee Co folks might be the best solution. I can donate some extra this year towards that if needed. I could also have a mini-fundraiser in Atlanta for whatever you decide to do that requires money.

Boy, I'm sticking my neck out on this one. But, it is important to note that the "Lee Co folks" is not specific enough. There are folks in Lee County who are very well trained and qualified in wilderness and technical rope rescue. Some are definitely not! And, none are well-equipped. Before giving a litter and gear away to the wrong bunch, it is suggested that some careful research be done into emergency services in Lee County. Talk to the leaders and members of these groups, and it should be quickly apparent which ones you want to come to your rescue.

Guess I better attach a string to that offer. You get the litter if you can come up with a dozen volunteers who will take a half-day's training in litter packaging and low-angle litter management. (free)
So ... who would like to jump on this offer and head up this initiative? The BOD is strapped with a major project, other RRGCC projects and well, life. Some of you are taking concern ... here is your chance to get involved! Rally the troups together.

And don't forget -----> ROCKTOBERFEST THIS WEEKEND!!!

Do they really need the damn thing mowed? I would think that all they need is even, dry ground in a clearing of dimension Z x Y without any intervening tree/ branch cover.
The two air ambulance services down here will be happy to meet with you and tell you exactly what they need.
If anyone's still interested in a LZ:
helicopter pilot guy wrote:"The area needs a couple qualities to make it safe for landing. It obviously needs to be big enough for the helicopter to land safely, but making the approach into and departing also needs to be clear.

My recommendation is to contact the company that would most likely operate the helicopter into that area. They might have company guidlines for an official landing site. You could find this company by contacting the closest major hospital.

My best guess for a good spot:

75' x 75'
Flat
Good in and out flight path like the center of the valley"
