For JR.
Dirtbagging is a rite of passage for anyone who calls themselves a climber. What may have started out as an over abundance of joy and excitement for the cohesiveness one feels with the rock, turns into a lifestyle that one cannot imagine living without.
A summer spent working odd jobs and scraping by, just to live for a passion that few know, gets the brain cog turning in the climber’s mind. Why should I sacrifice the beauty of spending all my time outside? Why should I be chained to a wife I hate, a job I despise, and a tiny cubicle with 15 minute coffee breaks? Is mortgaging your life for a home in the burbs next to neighbors you rarely speak to really worth it? A college degree ends up being a millstone that demands you ‘grow upâ€

people like you squelbox are the one's who loathe the dirtbag because you feel you are the one on the short end os the stick. myself and many other dirtbaggers work, or have held jobs that are able to be left at whim so that the passion may be chased. they are working, most paying taxes, and therefore are giving to the system. we live off the scraps of the wasteful person(s) who, (i guess since they "put into the system" as you so eloquently put it" are allowed to waste. those on the DB side use little and make use of what most deem "trash."
in this disposable lifestyle that you (and the other "sheeple" bust your ass to attain) you forget that there IS a world out there. you feel it is to be enjoyed only on the weekends because you HAVE to work 9-5/40hrs/365 because your old man did it and all those around you do it. but you wear blue socks, why?? the same reason some choose to live life EVERY day.
choice my friend.
the choice to live how YOU want to live. if you are so content with your life don't attack those who are living there's the way they see fit. i didn't make you choose the life you did, i hope you did though.
its okay for a DB to want more, someday, and if not, fine. Sucks to work your whole life only to be trapped by the things you want. some life huh.
as for just taking without giving back to the "greater good" i ask you this. where is your cure for cancer, where is your charity fund set up in the great name of fuckstick mcpiggleshit that will feed the masses? oh wait, you don't have that, you just choose to create the slight of hand that is your disdain for your own life while blaming others for the joy that is there.

Truth is in the mind of the beholder, every once in a while.pigsteak wrote:that's the way truth is brentucky... people refuse to acknowledge it, so they discredit it.
I am assuming you also watch the bachelorette and like those vampire movies with that sort of drippy sentiment.
Yes and double yes, but the latter is only a guess.
I still don't know what a dirtbag is or if I like them or if I would like to become one of them. As for the "greater good," pshhh, why does saving everything that breathes from cancer or some other such thing count as part of that anyway? In my mind you would just be more of the problem.
efil lanrete... i enjoy the sound, but in truth i find this seductively backward idea to be quite frightening

once again gip, i am trying to persue the life I want. will i work 40+? sure, will i still get to go climb/travel as much as i care to? hope so, that's why i'm doing it. do i feel it's necassary? not really but i do like to work, just not much. will it bring me happiness? no and not much does but i do like to travel/climb and this carreer choice shoul;d allow me to work, make decent money, and because of my less than most needs, it should do me just fine.
will i still take dirtbag paths and ways, you bet. am i glad i won't have to all the time? you bet.
what i won't do is complain or tell someone their choice is horribly wrong.

wait a minute....
you homos are nipping at each other scrotums, crying "heretic!" at each others position.
Yours are positions that represent the unrealistic pendulum swing-- far to far to one side or the other.
The truth underlying this all is Climbing. Rock climbing. It is the reason. We all signed on for it. How do you get to do as much of it as possible, carry it to its furthest expression as we imagine it?
some dirtbag it, ascetically foregoing / spurning material gains, strip down to be lean and unencumbered to find the end.
Some dig in for the long haul, assembling the complement of necessaries- job, family, career, all in the name of getting ready for the life committment.
We all signed on for life. We all know the bedrock. Climbing is the shit.
