Couple of weeks ago Jill and I were chided by a group of college (NZ's term for private boarding middle / high boarding schools) kids for not wearing a helmet while TRing a route. I'm flailing, Jill's belaying and we hear this girl say; "Hey, she needs a helmet! And...he needs a helmet!"

So my question is this, will I get kicked out of the club if, from time to time, I don't wear my helmet?
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Free falling in open space, like on routes at the 'Lode may be where the sport climbing helmet is seldom needed or used. Any chossy rock above and I'm suiting up with the hard plastic brain bucket for sure. Since I tend to drop gear, my belayer is better off too with a lid on the head.
