exactly..we all have this learning curve....one of them is to lose some gear, and then finally find out how to access the top of the cliff to rap and get your gear....

no way, I have NEVER done such a thing! In an unrelated story, I have GPS directions to the top of nearly every wall in the red.

thats a bit of a stretch from from the point I was trying to make, but still a good argument. Its not actually a bad idea to do that. You never know, maybe someone would be kind enough to return it.
i can honestly say that if I found a piece of gear with someone's info on it, I would attempt to return it. I certainly would not ship it on my dime, though.

I forgot, sorry about that. I was thinking, why didn't he just clip the bolts? All that trad shit is bolted now right? I mean, the process of placing gear is just for nostalgia.
