Not all steel is the same. You can bet your ass they used as cheap of steel as possible to make that bed frame. And lets not forget about what happens when the hangers rust... and they WILL rust if you arent using stainless.

I fully understand going the cheap route, but why risk it. Is your life worth the $135? If if a hanger blows and you dont die, but just get hurt.... are your medical bills going to be cheaper?

Ditto what Mike said. Time is worth far more than money. $130 in exchange for the hours it would take to make those hangers seems like a steal.

You could just put in the studs, and lead with a rack of real hangers. That'd be just as dumb... but even cheaper.

Actually I believe Danno has a Master Degree in Materials Engineering with an emphasis in metalurgy. Something like that....
When he was a WVU I was going to send him a bunch of crappy bolts to break and quantify strength. Never got around to it.

in that case.... he REALLY knows better! =) I know he's a smart dude, and I actually agree that they will probably be fine. I just wouldnt risk it. you dont know what kind of crappy metal they used, plus its going to be mild steel and not stainless.

My father is a pipe fitter and he has a little bit of angle iron on the farm. Not old bed rails. I will use a hand grinder with a cutting wheel to cut it, or the torch (the heat might lesson the strength there).

Good point Anderson, but you lacked the vision. I also have a drill press to cut the holes.
Right tools for the job makes it cheap and fast. I will use the bench grinder to smooth and buff the edges, throw some primer paint on them and go.

Almost as good as the 1.30 fixes.
Just home made. Climbers used to have more balls.

if it weren't for team suck replacing porter bolts and hangers, can you imagine the nightmare we'd have on our hands? thank god for non dirtbags who will step up and pay for these replacements.

so whatahutch, real dirtbags should only climb trad. sport climbing is for wienies, old farts, and people with jobs and no climbing skills.

whatsherhooch, get real dude... by the time you cut, drill, grind and paint 100 of these things you could have easily made $130.00 at the rest area.
