Rick: I think Frank's tongue is in his cheek in reference to the recent election of B.Obama, his message for change and the massive public tide it took to make it happen. Frank is not being frank because he knows BO is not in office yet.

Whenever there is a show of support for Muir on this forum, it seems to prompt a small, but vocal group of malcontents to start posting. This is the reason we had been quietly working this issue behind the scenes, rather than asking for help here.

I guess the threats to the place we love will never stop. People are just going to have to stand up each and every time.
Back in my day the Red River Gorge was scheduled to be inundated, forever. If that had happened the incredible climbing scene you know today would have been lost before it even started. The dam was a done deal. All the studies had been done and everything was approved, the funding was there, the governor was behind it, and the Corp of Engineers was chomping at the bit. But a bunch of hippie backpackers, rock climbers, naturalists, and locals changed history, and stopped the dam. Now it's your turn to buck up.

Of course we are shocked and upset, but I refrain from swearing all over the site with my true feelings. Back in the early 70's, I'd contact my local Earth First! friends for some clever retaliation.

Isn't Muir Valley considered a KY "recreational area" or something like that? I would think that alone would weigh against the lawmakers choosing to impact this land. Especially since they have been promoting tourism...
But I think the real saving grace may be the extreme cost of builing a road through MV.
