Banning guns is an attempt to regulate morality, and as such, is not going to work. Ours is a violent society and gun violence is just a symptom. Regulation is good, and much harsher sentences for gun related crime are the way to deal with it.

The thing that I do find amusing though, is that so many people are willing to fight so hard to maintain this amendment, yet seem to have no real interest in the way the others are being abused.

As Terry once said "God, Gays, and Guns" are the focus of way to many people, to the exclusion of all else.

What Wes said, gun control is a silly argument that will never make any progress one way or the other.

Of course, I like guns. Shooting skeet isn't recreational? Rebuilding a firearm passed down from your grandfather isn't recreational?

Guess I'm one of those treehugging, granola eating, public service oriented hippies with a little bit of gun wielding, redneck Nazi thrown in to keep me honest.

Agreed, Wes. There are many parts of the constitution that are either being ignored or abused. I recommend everybody get a copy of it. $4.95 for a pocket copy at your local bookstore.

Recreation? climbing is recreation...guns are not.

Firearms shouldnt be banned but i believe more regulations and restrictions should be imposed to keep the 'wrong' people from obtaining one.

Or as Chris Rock put it, there would be less killings if bullets cost $5000 a piece!

Shooting is definitely recreational! Ever heard of skeet shooting (God help me for the innuendos to follow)? How about turkey shoots? Just because you have no interest in it, doesn't mean its not recreation.

i do not think shooting for the sake of shooting is recreation.

sure hunting and skeet are sports...no problem there.
but if your hunting with a gun maybe you should even the odds just a little and use a bow and really earn your kill.

Hmmm, "shooting for the sake of shooting". Is that kind of like when me and my friends get together on a Sunday afternoon at a ranch outside of Bozeman to bust a few boxes of clays, sight in our hunting rifles on paper , shoot 22s at swinging steel targets, maybe try our hand at the gongs out at 300 yards? Everybody brings something that they think others will find interesting. On a given day anybody that shows up might get to shoot several different 100 year old English "Best" side by sides, an antique 45/70 from the era of the buffalo hunters, or perhaps a fine double elephant rifle in 450/400. We get in some good practice, enjoy a cold drink, and everybody laughs and has a good time...., I don't know, maybe you wouldn't enjoy it too much, but it kind of feels like recreation to me.
