Agreed, but when did common sense go out of style????

being gay isn't a big deal, its the Christian right wing that won't shut the hell up about it. Gay people would love nothing more than to quietly live thier lives with equal rights as US citizens.

Are we now using Catholocism's ideals or Protestant ideals???
I was never taught limbo, pergutory etc. etc. as far as that goes I've never read of them in the Bible, maybe in the Catachisms???? I don't believe in those, as they pertain to the faith, thats a whole other ball of wax.....

Other than marriage, what other rights do you want? I don't have a problem with anyone being gay, I have several friends and a close relative that are gay, and I love them like any other family member or friend. we have discussed this before you and I, so please quit clumping us all up together. If a African American offends me, I don't hate the whole race, so I guess you hate all Christians because some of them are stupid sheep with nothing better to do than make others lives miserable.

gunslnga, I was answering pigsteak's little statement about how gay people should shut up. We have covered the whole gay rights things I'd rather not get into it again. Ask your close friends and family members if they have equal rights other than marriage/civil unions.

hey rhunt..I just figured if it was OK to slam jesus, paul, right wingers, those of faith, and any other specialized group on this thread, then gays should get fair treatment here. isn't that what we are after..the equal right to offend?

Slam? We are talking about ideas here. Many Christians go to foreign lands and tell people that their little wooden gods do not exist. The Christians are not slamming them. The Christians are correct; they are talking about ideas and concepts. What a lot of people in this forum are doing is telling the Christians that their little wooden god does not exist. I don't see the slam; in the realm of ideas there should be nothing sacred. If we can discuss issues openly this hypothetically clears the way for a better society.
For example, it is silly that guys who like guys and girls who like girls can not marry or unite legally, call it what you will. If Christ is standing in the way of this, that barefoot bastard needs to be shoved out of the way.

Actually it is not Christ, but what gets translated as Christ; the person standing in the way is a cross between a Lord of the Rings extra and a Nascar fan. Regardless, there is a better way to live. Gays need to get louder and more of us who are not gay need to join with them for a better society. We would be like the few white people who stood up for civil liberties during the sixties and brothered up. Man do I have the props for those folks. When I see the old films of that era their presence moves more than anything else. the fortitude that it took to escape the lockstep of their society and do the right thing is huge. Don't tell me that blacks hanging from trees in the countryside was society optimized, optimized for who? Why can't we liberate gays and allow them to marry? How is their civil union affecting straight marriage. Let's bitch slap the hell out of who you think Jesus is right now.

The state shouldn't recognize any marriage. It is a religious union, not of the state.
Civil unions for all. Let the church have their marriages.

Rhunt, thanks.
Shamis, agreed! This would take the element of religion out of the process and simplify the argument about marriage to to a question of civil liberty instead of "what is the definition of marriage."
