I think Cranky is actually a teacher and playing devil's advocate. I feel I've been suckered.

I think $80G might be a decent wage to teach high school in this country. Otherwise I say fuck the little shits. Let 'em rot. The right wingers have figured it out anyway: lock everybody up that's stupid and make sure they'll stay there.

Crankmas again...
nurses go on strike, won't happen, they don't have a union

Nurses around here start at around 45k for a full time RN, teachers with a Bachellors in ED, and a minor in Math start at around 32k, when they get they're
masters they may make 40k.

Let's do some algebra, if a nurse and a teacher start out with a high school diploma, and a 4 year degree and in 5 years one is making 60k and one is making 45k, which one should go on strike first???? I know this is apples and oranges, but it seems to be the course for this discussion. I appreciate and respect nurses, and they put up with alot of shit, literally, but I would be a male nurse before I would ever be a teacher. I can only speak from direct experience of a Cincinnati Ohio public school teacher, If you all are making so much in Ky, maybe I'll tell her to move and I can quit paying her so much money. :D :D

Close Overhung I just wish I were a teacher and I have nothing against them other than the special interest angle which in my feeble mind feeds the corruption and/or inefficiency of Ky state govt. Plus if I ever do become one I will have a healthy dose of self-hate that you know is kinda of cool in west coast angst sorta way.

woe is me you poor teaching saps....you only work 3/4 of a year, so your pay should be 75% of the working stiff that toils all year long. you get 12 weeks in the summer and a winter break....

yes, teaching is difficult but it isn't rocket science. it is more like being a homeroom monitor, mother and prison guard all wrapped up.

change careers if you don't like it.

and alan, you have it almost right. except that the republicans wanted school vouchers for everyone to attend the school of their choice, thereby creating competition, and allowing kids to attend the best schools. i know...i know...the poor innner schools will lose this game, making them worse than they were...but don't we want the crust to be scraped from the bottom?

It's 17 votes YEA and 19 votes NAY with 96 cast.
I say we lock the thread at 100 votes, good round number and it
could end as a 20-20 tie!

It doesn't really look like a tie with 57 votes for Bush being an imbecile.

Yeah but I voted Bush and now think he's an imbecile, the yea's and nay's are the deciding votes here for the original poll question.

Well, I voted imbecile (and have always thought that), thus I felt like the imbecile choice inherently included a nay vote for W.
