Teachers are overpaid, unqualified and suck ass- their jobs would be even more easy if parents or sperm donor/recepients had the brain capacity of a mailbox.

gunslinga, i'd vote for you if you ran for prez, but you'd need to modify you're stance on gun control. as i am on of the suckass teachers referred to I offer the following:

Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids, and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning.

Not only that, but I'm to - instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, behaviorally modify disruptive behavior, and observe them for signs of abuse, drugs, and T-shirt messages.

I am to fight the war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for guns, and raise their self-esteem.

I'm to teach them - patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, how and where to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job, but I am never to ask if they are in this country illegally.

I am to - check their heads occasionally for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of potential antisocial behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarships, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and oh yeah, - teach, always making sure that I give the girls in my class fifty percent of my attention.

In order to qualify for a substantial raise, I'm required by my contract to be working, on my own time, summer, and evenings, and at my own expense, towards additional certification, advance certification and a master's degree. I may have to sponsor the cheerleaders or the junior class, and after school I am required to attend PFP committee and faculty meetings, and participate in staff development training to maintain my current certification and employment status.

I am to collect data and maintain all records to support and document our building's progress in the selected state mandated program, and to "assess and upgrade educational excellence in the public schools."

I am to be a paragon of virtue larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority. I am to - pledge allegiance to supporting family values, a return to the basics, and my current administration.

I am to incorporate technology into the learning, but monitor all web sites for appropriateness, all the while providing a personal one-on-one relationship with each student. I am to decide who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit crimes in school, or who is possibly being abused, not forgetting that I can be sent to jail for not mentioning these suspicions to those in authority.

I am to make sure ALL students pass the county tests, state and federally mandated tests, all their classes, check whether or not they attend school on a regular basis and make sure they complete any of the work assigned that they missed while they were AWOL or in ISS. I am to communicate frequently with each student's parent by letter, phone, newsletter, and grade reports.

I'm to do all of this with a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a 45 minute or less planning period, and a big smile on my face, doing all on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps in many states.

Is that all?

AND: I have to obtain a Master's Degree at my own expense to keep my job. I also have to complete 24 hours of continuing education each year to help me teacher better, on my own time. Although, most people don't want to admit it, there are only so many ways to teach reading and composition skills. Many of our parents learned how to read using the old McGuffy Reader. Their reading skills are far superior to those of students graduating high school today. Why? Probably because suckass parents don't instill an appreciation for reading early on, and take away the stupid playstation. I get a kid for forty-five minutes a day to teach reading. He's with his parents the rest of the evening and all weekend. He/she should be reading at home.

Well stated Overhung. Along with all the other insults teachers endure, they are also likely to report to a delapidated, smelly, uncomfortable, and unsafe building. All those years of expensive schooling and this is your welcome to the 'company'.
Crankmas wrote:blah blah blah A bunch of stupid shit blah blah----and then he said---- vote the party not the thought process and we pay.
Which sounds correct until you have experienced the gerrymandering like they had in Texas. Now you have to consider if crossing a party line to vote for a better candidate can lead to never having your vote matter ever again unless you move. Or , maybe voting what you THOUGHT was a "thought process", is turned into some asshole lunatics' grand vision of 'The World According to Me/How George and Jesus Re-drew the Map'.
There are plenty of downsides to consider when you cross that line. The right isn't making it very attractive.

Overhung states.....

I believe in gun control, I hit my target controlling my gun every time!!! :D
I actually agree that some stuff should not be on the streets and in the hands of morons that have been let out of jail on our revolving door policy.

As for the rest of your post, I lived next to one of those poor souls for 5 years(ex-wife)she works for Cincinnati Public Schools. In her first three years she was surplused to 4 different schools, everytime she got settled into a routine, she had to leave. I taught a 4h program to 3rd graders for her one time, so I have first hand knowledge on the statements I made. Crank, what would you do(realisticly) when a 6 year old calls you a fucking honky and bites you, and when you pull her off, she slaps and spits on you???? And by the racial tone in her comment you know the limitation on how it can can be handled due her ethnicity. This is a deeper rooted problem with which teachers hands are tied and blinders installed to deal with it. Crank, you are right in one thing only, it is the direct responsibility of the parents to prepare and discipline they're kids for todays society, be it school or elsewhere. I think society in general is in a sink hole in this area, kids are our future, but what are we presently doing to help them help themselves???? I'm on a rant now, so I'll step down from my soap box and allow others to share.

Teachers go on strike no big deal- nurses go on strike, won't happen, they don't have a union, they don't dwell at the crotch of the Ky legislature so they don't get catered to like the suck ass teachers do. and guess what nurses get shit thrown on them, deal with asshole patients and the asshole patients family or gang are required to deal with continuous certification and education requirements- Nurses need to go on strike- let the doctors and the administators clean shit for 15 minutes and see what happens.

Yes. We dwell in the crotch... that's why my health insurance costs me $650 a month out of pocket. We're definitely fleecing the taxpayers. Our lobbiests are doing a great job, that's probably, why we average a third of the pay of other professions with commensurate education levels.

Teachers get catered to?!? When did that start? If teachers got catered to you'd think they'd get paid more than the minimum wage to start (and yes, I know starting wages are around $24G but I also know that teachers work more than 40 hours a week).
