Funny. I wish I could see the IP log as I think I'd maybe recognize the address.

Yeah, sitting here with her right now.

Here's the thing, having a little bit of experience with OTHER nonprofit organizations around here that have issues I may be blessed with a bit more persepective, or so I tell myself. Single individuals can be problematic, but they are also capable of doing a hell of a lot of good.

When the discussion changes from "Gretchen is a ...." to "fuck the RRGCC" you people need to step the fuck back. Anyone of you fuckers have any problem with Bill, Dr. Bob, Johnny, Ryan, or even SS or Gretchen for what they've done in the Red it's a bit of a problem for me. Maybe you don't want to get beers with these people, fine. But when the RRGCC's name and efforts get dragged through the mud because of some things a certain person may have done it's slanderous.

I think about Bob and my friends and Tina thinks about Johnny and everyone else that's busted ass out of the goodness of their hearts every time another fucking coalition bashing session comes up around here. I hope that'll lend a little perspective to these discussions.

/wish I were over it

well said, Charlie. I am soooo tempted to (ab)use my admin powers and lock this thread. Maybe all of y'all can stop and think about how what you are saying effects others, and just please stop.

The RRGCC is a great thing. Gretchen is an apparent problem. She's a hard ass worker but she simply lacks social skills and shouldn't be a representative. Shannon, on the other hand, is respected by many for lists and lists of things. She is highly educated, eloquent, and is an incredible representative. That's not in question. But from what I hear, it's simply time for her to step down so that others with a different vision than hers can step it up and help preserve climbing with a more community based initiative. That seems to have been the goal of the RRGCC for a long time now but it just isn't happening. We need to figure out why.

I'm somewhat sorry for starting this thread. Not because I don't think Gretchen isn't terrible at being a voice for climbers but because I am sorry for opening a platform for people to cause pain to some very dear people to me.

I've been talking to Bill a lot because of the guidebook stuff and I want to congratulate him for the great job he's doing. Additionally, I'm thankful to the BOD for their hard work (that includes Gretchen) and to all the volunteers and donations. I am immensely impressed with SSS beyond words and the MPP purchase is simply outstanding. For a group of folks doing what they're doing for free and in their spare time, I applaud each and every one of them.

I don't know what the answers are for change but I do know that it's inevitable. I challenge everyone to dig deep and post one good thing that the RRGCC has done. Maybe, if we repeat all the good things they've done long enough, the bad will fade away and the future of our climbing organization will be something we're proud of.

On a more constructive note then…
I think that for the most part every one will agree that there are problems that need to be fixed. If you do not agree, you are saying that it’s perfect, and sorry, I don’t buy it. So, what can be done to fix these problems in the fastest possible manner?
Isn’t it true that the coalition needs money?
Isn’t it true that the coalition needs the support of climbers to be increased by many folds? Well, what else is true then and how can it be changed without anyone thinking we are bashing them / him / her or it? (please do not post it and read on…)

What I am proposing is rather simple:
Based on the idea that the coalition has been in need of money, and assuming that it still needs money, and assuming that it still wants additional and greater support of climbers, what would it take for YOU (yes, you, the reader) to:
1. Become a member of the coalition.
2. Provide say $30 a year in USD to the coalition.
3. Provide at least 10 hours a year of work on trails / routes.
4. Provide at least 10 minutes a week of work for the RRGCC.

Again, the idea is really not to post and piss off more people.
What I had in mind was for you, me, us to write a letter in the form of an essay expressing true needs and or true expectations in return for your membership, help, work, dedication, and very supportive efforts? This correspondence would be sent DIRECTLY to the coalition based on the 4 facts above (or similar).

Think of it as a trade if you must, because in the end, it’s pretty much what it boils down to. Give – Take: in the end, we would have what we want, they would have what they want. Compromises? Of course, you can expect compromises, because there will be some. That’s inevitable, because it’s life.

Does the above come to mind as a possibility?

An example for those who cannot imagine the future:
1000 people say that they would give item 1 through 4 if:
a) Gretchen steps out
b) More BOD need to be in place

Well, then it’s totally in the hands of the board to see if $30 000 / year is worth someone to step down, and more people to come up.

For those who think I am joking: I am not.
! Enough with all that detestation ALREADY !
Smile & be thankful for what you have.

I want to apologize if I have offended some innocent people that are associated with the RRGCC . I did know John and had an immense amount of respect for him.

I do stand by my position that the RRCGG has had some PR issues; however, I probably shouldn't have voiced some of these things so loudly on this board.

I truly respect all the dedication and offerings of time, work & money that any and all members of the coalition have given. We all want the same thing, for the most climbing to be open for the most people possible. It seems like a "city hall" or a "clear the air" meeting might go along way towards bringing more people together. A meeting with the sole purpose of mending relationships and moving forward in a unified manner. A lot of times all it takes to really make some headway is an apology, rather than letting some dispute fester unresolved. Hell, hold it at the MP, go have some fun together, and hash it out.
