I spent a few weeks climbing in California a couple of years ago. While bouldering at the Buttermilks I met some guys from the Carolinas who climbed often at the New. We started talking about all of the routes we had climbed at New River. They were staying at Camp 4 but drove to Bishop for the day to boulder. They left directions to the campsite and a few days later I drove to Yosemite and met them there. We climbed all kinds of great routes. While staying at Camp 4 I found all kinds of cool people that were looking for climbing partners. I got lucky (like usual) and met lots of great climbers who were eager to show off their favorite areas and give me a free tour. I love to travel and meet climbers from other places and see the excitement and enjoyment on their faces (and mine) when they share and proudly show off their home crags to an unknown outsider.

It has gotten so bad that last night I suggested we start working out on the stairwells..you can stand underneath them and climb up the back, it's overhung nicely and is all jugs and the steps are made out of rough stone, so they would toughen up our hands.....
must climb soon - my immediate goal is simple - to go climbing - longer term...start working 11s this fall. But with our lag in climbing, not sure where I will be when we go out again, last time I had this much time off, I came back stronger than before, so we'll see. My first trad lead went great, but scared the poop out of me, so I don't think I will be working on that again for a bit, but I am always up for seconding a route, just call me the Janitor...I love to clean!

Hmmm.... I've only been going to the gym 1-2 times a week (as opposed to everyday like the previous year), only climbing routes we've put up (as opposed to 10 pitches per day on the weekends).... and Dean haven't called me yet.

-start Trad climbing
-send Orgasam Direct (5.11c) at Devil's Lake, WI
-send a 5.12c by the end of the year
..but WAIT!!! the year isn't over, there are still a few weekends left as this past weekend so perfectly showed.
lets see, I now have a rack and was able to onsight RockWars which was my goal for the summer. I sent Orgasam Direct a couple times this spring. I still haven't sent a 5.12c, not even a 5.12b yet. i don't think i will unless i come down this fall sometime, i don't like working routes and its been to hot to push my limits. fun summer though.

"Orgasm Direct" is a great route! One of my favorite climbs at Devil's Lake. Thin and reachy in the middle... I remember it well.

"no other canyon in North America combines the depth, narrowness, sheerness, and somber countenance of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison."
-Geologist Wallace Hansen
My goals have switched around a few time this year but the one I settled in on is now two weeks away. 1,600 ft. of dueling cracks, chimneys and a roof thrown in for good measure. Been training hard for this one. Black Canyon, here we go. I can hear the raging river already.
