I thought this was going nowhere so I quit reading sometime back, now it seems to have gotten interesting. Based on my skimming, I am with you caribe. Every theological discussion I have ever had with highly religious people I make a large point in saying that there is always a point where we can not explain, that is where we turn to god. Until we figure that thing out too, then we can prescribe the new unknown to god. There will always be room for god.

Hey Caribe -

Religion itself is a subculture (which branches further depending on the sect) just as a climbing community is. They have brought together people who exists in both communities - a gathering of likeminded people. It's the same reason why guys gather for football games or climbing women gather for food and chatting (as we do in Lex from time to time). Homogenous groups are not new or abnormal to humans so why do you have a problem with it? I'm sure they'd let you join, IF you wanted to be part of it.

Also, you're making an erroneous assumption that I label you based on your beliefs. That I don't do, especially if I share some of them.

So where are all these climber women meeting!!!?? Oh.... wait... I am married and she climbs.
Instinct kicked in for a second.
:D

I don't think the uber Christians want me around. Every time the rope catches someone and they say praise or thank god! I would say, who? Climbing cliques based on religions make sense, I guess, if people don't want some jack ass around questioning their faith. I don't mind Christians around because I like to discuss issues, politics, religion, science etc. So much of climbing is social.

caribe,
I didn't make myself clear. I understand that the signalling (trophic factors, etc) that prompt the differentiation of cell lines to form organ specific tissue, blah, blah,.... Biology has done a good job at teasing out the finer and finer points of why we are what and who we are. But I can tell you that I am not alone in my wonder as I learn the minutia of biologica. How many full professors in the College of Medicine (these are research PhDs and card carrying academics) who began to question the finite limitations of science to fully account for complexity of life and its processes. To stand firm in the adherance of the one method of description that is science is to be zealous, not inquisitive and skeptical.
As for beautiful children, all children are thus. I don't thank Jesus for that or anything else ( I am a Unitarian- not to be confused with a Unitarian Universalist). What I am left to ponder is how can defenseless children be trusted to the care of morons. Again, my feeble mind trying to resolve badness. Emotionally it helps me process bad shit that otherwise I would melt down trying to understand.

Who isn't puzzled by the nearly fractal-like complexity of life and how closely life balances on the edge of chemical disaster. Apparently spatial resolution of a tenth of an angstrom is good enough to see the complexity that we see at the 500 nm and above scale. And differences in time scales from 1x10 ^ -10 to 1 sec is going to give life enough choices in the orchestration of biochemical processes to give rise to said complexity. Jack yak blah blah and other stuff you already know. It is still beyond amazing! Regarding kids, I am still a moron. You have to throw in some love and hopefully they find their way.

Sure, we can hug and stroke each other's "crosses" at the meeting.
