weekend report
Weekend highlight was a bit old school - Bedtime for Bonzo. We had a guy down to the Red for the first time, so we had to show him some of the classics (and I had never done it). We got in a few other routes while the previous two parties poked their ways up it. I was a really beautiful day, but a bit chilly in the shade as we got started. The first pitch wasn't particularly bad or weird, but the slight overhang getting up on to the ledge was a bit of a surprise. The second pitch was interesting - I got into a slightly odd position transitioning from the horizontal traverse up to the ledge to begin the diagonal. With a few moves up the diagonal, I was at the top - great... a slopey mantle. All in all, it was a pretty nice climb, but it's too bad that it's broken up in the middle. The best part was the view from the top. It was perfect in the sun. We hung out for a while and took some pictures before rapping off. All in all, it was a great day.

Went back to Letcher Co to visit the folks and am also suffering from some kind of sinus funk/sore throat, so there was no climbing for me this weekend. Don't even know if I will feel good enough to climb tomorrow. Being sick SUX BAT'S ASS!

...quitting drinking is kinda like washing your hands after you take a crap...why start now?
No climbing this weekend, chizillin with the old school homeys for my birthday in the Big South Fork.
Thursday started with a little time helpin the special ladies in my life work their way through college.
Friday cruised to the campsite and built a fire, set up the telescope and waited for my buds. Partied til about 5.
Saturday got up and paddled the river. Cruised through all the class 4's but got my ass handed to me by a hole at the bottom of Ass Kicker rapid. Now I know why they call it that, it was a COOOLD day for a swim. Got back to the site and watched the eclipse. Partied til 5:30.
Sunday was casual, went for a hike then drove home. So wasted the boat and gear's still in my truck today.
It was a good weekend to kick the 30's off right. 8)

I would like to tell everyone about my climbing experience yesterday. It was wonderful.
Alexis was in town for the weekend and she needed her Red River Gorge fix. We headed to Long Wall to do one of her favorite climbs, Big Country. We got there before ten and didn't get back to the car until almost dark. The whole day was spent climbing, venting, laughing, crying and most of all enjoying each others company. When we finally reached the top of the climb, we ate our lunch and just inhaled the beauty surrounding us. Neither one of us wanted to leave...but the sun was getting lower in the sky and we weren't entirely sure her rope would reach the ground on the 2nd rap (it didn't, we had to jump to the ground). We had so much fun!
As we were driving home on the parkway, we listened to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's Hawian version of "Over the Rainbow" while watching the sun set. It made us realize how good we have it, how our lives are a tangled web of memories and experiences yet to come.
Back in Lexy, we had a cup of coffee before she got back on road heading to her home, Iwoa. It was a perfect day.
For those of you fortunate enough to know Alexis, you can imagine how hard it was for me to say goodbye. She is truly an amazing woman. I miss my friend!

He's great! I listened to a lot of his stuff while in Hawaii, and it's such beautiful relax-to music.chester wrote:we listened to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's Hawian version of "Over the Rainbow"
I'm so glad to hear that you had such an awesome day, Chester. I haven't met Alexis, but I've heard some great things about her.

Climbed ladder and tried to finish drywall. Dug out old insulation from attic, still not 100% sure there wasn't asbestos in there somewhere. Put new insualtion in attic. This morning I sorta felt like I had climbed trad (at leas the akward offwidth wiggling stuff).
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
