While reading this thread a few pages back it dawned on me that there might be a way to deal with defacing the rock with chalk. This is what I have been experimenting wtih: I mix Sacrete with my chalk and climb away!
There does seem to be a little trouble on high humidity days, and as soon as I can break my hand loose and get down from this route I will tell you about it.

I did my best to chalk up some rock this weekend but it just vanished on my hands. Funny, we had a HUGE climbing area full of 5.10 - 5.12 sport routes and lots of nice trad lines. If it'd been the Red we would've had to wait in line. Now if only there were a Miguel's in the Big South Fork area.
