I do all the time, ask my belayers. But not because I want the rock face to look pretty. Remember I think the rock face looks better and or has it own unique beauty when it is all chalked up. I bush so the holds will have a better texture.

It's all a matter of perspective. I see tick marks and chalked holds as the same thing. So Paul, you and I just do not agree.

They also didn't need 60 meter ropes under 11 mm in diameter and "stealth" rubber.
Things and times change...

Or roterary hammer drills, 5 piece bolts, and crash pads. You ready to give up those things?

I was talking about tick marks, NOT chalk, ropes, rubber, drills, bolts, and crash pads. There is an obvious difference.

Is there? Which cause more impact?
Tell you what: I will give up tick marks if you start hand drilling everything...

Oh no, Wes - don't open up a different can of worms!
Enlighten me what the big difference is between motorized drilling and hand drilling as far as impact. And don't say noise pollution bec then we will also have to ban atv's and loud sport climbers!

I don't mind tick marks (I tick mark sometimes myself), but I think people should be reasonable about it and not get carried away with excessive tick marking. Also, it would be nice if more people had the courteousy to brush them off.
