So to flip your last response around. If romney paid 14 percent but it was all legal, shouldnt that say we need a revamp of the tax code? Why not fix the loopholes on both ends? And trust me those loopholes exist no matter what you make:)

I agree, obama can spray about raising so so to x % tax rate, then the accountants and attorneys sit down with the thousands of pages of tax laws and that whole concept becomes a joke, obama and the left can pat themselves on the back and score political points with the brain dead while the new x % is still a fricking joke, by a man who is a fool and country that became a joke by electing the fool-

tax codes have been getting more onerous for decades with no one party to blame.

Here I defer to your greater knowledge in this area Kipp, but I imagine that the tax code should be simplified. I imagine that complex tax must contain loopholes.

QE2 will turn into QE3 ect...ect.. actually a good thin to have would be whiskey and tobacco. Both have been used for bartering for centuries.
Now this is what gets me... The vast majority of our agricultural resources go straight to feeding cows. Solution? Eat more plants, less meat. The average American gets more than double the amount of protein they need (although it's more like 10x the necessary amount by some estimates).
So, do you really think that this country is so frail that you're ever
really gonna need all those guns and bomb shelters? Not for survival, no, but only if you want to preserve a certain quality of life (e.g., the 1950's era bomb shelter existence--how fun). The rest of us will be forced to adapt. Luckily, America is pretty robust. Hell, if the price of a tomato goes up 1000%, I may become a tomato farmer myself.

it is true that many americans pay little or no federal income taxes. it is also true that they pay many other taxes (payroll, sales, etc.).
more importantly, as someone pointed out, you can't squeeze much blood from that particular stone. would it make you feel better if poor people paid a piddling, symbolic amount? you should google information on wealth and income inequality in this country. pretty clear to see that those that are doing well have all the god damn money. so, if you're the government and you need to collect taxes to, you know, get government stuff done -- then, should you go to where the money is or make ideological, IMPRACTICAL appeals to have everyone pay even though you'd be wasting everyone's time trying to tax those with no money?

I wonder how many of this 50% are the ones standing on their rooftops yelling no free rides at the top of their lungs?... Because, just like too many folks, they hear you say NO FEDERAL TAXES and all they hear is SOME PEOPLE GET 100% OF THEIR PAY AND I DON'T!!! Then they do some research and realize that the 30K per year high horse they've been riding actually lands them in the same camp as those they despise as free loaders.
