I mean for real. I can't believe I didn't obsess about this band when I first heard their stuff.....
"It’s not just that they rock, it’s that you believe what you hear, that they love the sound they make, that Wennerstrom lays her soul bare in her lyrics without sounding like Sarah McLachlan, that the women of rock who labored to make it OK for a girl to dream of playing guitar deserve far better than Avril Lavigne or Kelly Osbourne as their descendants."

Sunny Day Real Estate the first emo band?!?

Have you heard of the Cure? They fucking invented emo. They ARE emo. Without the Cure there is no emo.

Oddly enough I'm listening to REM "Radio Free Europe" at the moment.

Back in my record store days there was this couple of kids that came into the tape department every evening at the same time and sat in front of the Cure section. They were both kind of doughy and white, both wore black make-up and too much of it, and they would sit and touch the different tapes, stroking them and talking about how great this song or that was and the lyrics, oh my gawd. More emo than emo, those two. This was the early 90's. Back when Dan Quayle was our Vice President...
