Their is a difference between vigilance and paranoia. Terrorism isn't that bad. How many americans have died in the last 10 years to terrorist attacks? How does that compare with other threats that our society faces? You're probably more likely to die falling down the stairs than you are of dying from a terrorist attack.

Telling Musharraf that he needs to have a democracy in pakistan is far more dangerous than ignoring all of the worlds terrorists.

Tell me what you know about the first attack on the World Trade Center, the one that failed. Do you know how many people would have died in that one if they'd pulled it off?

dunno. Probably less than died in the one they did pull off. Either way a small percentage of the population.

And it is also worth pointing out that we stopped the original attack on the world trade center, and we didn't even have a WAR ON TERROR yet. Imagine that. How could the govt possibly have stopped such a thing without tapping your phone and waterboarding canadians???

The first attack on the World Trade Center was not stopped. The perps got the engineering wrong and it failed. In '93 they parked a van containing a 1,500 lb. bomb in the underground garage beneeth tower one. The plan was to toppel tower one into tower two and have both buildings fall onto the surrounding complex. The bomb went off, killing only six people when the tower did not fall. Had this attack worked, an estimated 250,000 people would have died, 100% of the occupants of both buildings, and many in the buildings below. Like I said, go bury your head in the sand. Terrorism isn't that bad.

Then go bury your freedom in the sand. You'll have to live in a police state to deal with the never ending threat of terrorism.

Nope, police state not required.

Terrorism is a byproduct of overpopulation and greed. The harmonious balance has been tipped way past the breaking point. It's only going to get worse. There will be wars over natural recourses like oil, water, etc. for many years to come unless we figure out how to go sustainable. We are all animals; we will always fight for what we want. And all of this for dead end road, a finite amount of resources which will be gone in a few decades.

The Iraq war on average, to date, has cost the average American household $20,000. Imagine if we used this money to invest into sustainable energy how much further ahead we would be. We could probably have fusion reactors by now and the fight over oil would be over. But this would have taken forethought; something that governing bodies don't seem to have enough of.

Wars on ideology can't be fought with bombs. We cant fight an ideology by attacking a nation. No matter how much we spend in Iraq we still have to cover homeland security. Leveling Iraq and Iran is not going to stop terror.

The exportation of our culture and our encroachment on the culture of the terrorist is causing the backlash. We have been changing them for the past 50 years. They are loosing. Their girls want to wear blue jeans. Us powering up and bringing out the guns to launch a general attack on their society is walking backwards. We are sending them back to the dark ages which is what their religious zealots want. We are helping our enemies and harming our friends. We are shooting ourselves in the foot.

This war was the production of the wrong widget and its too expensive. Trad mike we can't expect to progress when we are being led by the village idiot. He also is not very conservation / ecology centered.

Blinded by political correctness you are. If the terrorists were fundamentalist Christians you'd have no difficulty identifying the source of the problem.

But the terrorists are followers of an insane Islamist Cult, and it would be culturally insensitive to mention that, so we must blame the problem on overpopulation, greed, dwindling natural sources, U.S. cultural hedgemony, anything, and everything except the true sources of the problem. This, even from a self avowed atheist, who blames every problem under the sun, except terrorism, on religion.
