chriss, I like it better in terms of noticeable stressing of the system. How many of you get to cruising altitude when running (moving) for more than 10 minutes? I know I do.

You assume I like to run, I don't like to run. I loathe running, but it's the easiest form of cardio I can think of. I do admire people that are passionate about it. Mostly because it is impressive to have the ability to let their mind go somewhere else for that long.
funny that you should say that. i used to lothe running too. i SWORE i would never run. in high school when they made us "run" i only ran 1 lap and walked the rest - that way i was guarenteed a D and a D = passing! then i started running to get fit for climbing. after a bit i got used to it. now i like it. never say never. you might like it one day.

my work has a pretty nice gym. i do 35 minutes on the elliptical cross training machine 3 or 4 times a week. i have a heart rate monitor that helps me keep my tempo up. i'm trying to loose ~10 lbs and i want a bit more cardio fitness so i can climb more.

You beat me to it. Running is monotonous and painful. Save your knees and your gas and put teh fun between your legs! If your not huffing and puffing just ride faster, pack more weight, race cars, haul the dog, shop for groceries/beer etc.- you will get worked out. It may be more dangerous than running circles in the arboretum but isn't the sharp end always more fun?

I wouldn't even climb a route if it was named "Cardio".

More or less actually DO cardio.
