Tool's a flash back to when bands were supposed to be good you know have musical talent n' stuff, they've been together for almost 20 years now. Yet ask the average dumpfounded dipshit and he/she has never heard of them, kind of like rock climbing 10-15 years ago but that's another story. People just aren't used to listening to songs longer than 3 minutes, their ADD kicks in generally long before they have a chance to enjoy it. Tool seems to prefer it that way, they spend barely anything in marketing and make most of their $ on live shows apparently-- how it should be.
Anyway, I've seen them many times 7 or so I think, I've enjoyed every concert immensely each one seems to evolve somehow. If you are a musician you have got to see Danny Carey play live at least once-- not too many "popular' acts have someone of that caliber in their lineup in this day and age, even less virtuoso musicians can actually write music that sounds good and complements other instruments/voice so well-- unheard of in contemporary popular music. I really believe this music is ageless and that people will be listening to it for a LONG time to come. I was in a locally owned cd shop replacing my Aenima cd a few years ago, the guy smiled and said that's my number 1 selling CD since he'd opened his store-- still selling out 10 years after its release.
blah blah blah yay tool rant over

well said, lateralus. tip of the hat to ya. i shall refrain from any tool rants of my own, as i could go on forever.
i will say that i started listening to them in their infancy when i was also in mine (around 12 or 13yrs old). over the years they kept changing and evolving as a group, getting all of the piss & vinegar out early (opiate/undertow), going thru a period of transition (ænima) and then settling down and reflecting on our existence (lateralus/10,000 days). it seems i went thru/am going thru the same process. i feel blessed that their timeline coincided w/ mine and don't think i would be the same had it not. k, i'm done.

Exactly Lateralus. I wonder how long Maynard would last on 'American Idol'? Seems to me that the general public has a very different definition of 'talent'.

It's kind of astonishing to listen to the top sellers in Canada and Britain and compare them to the utter shit that supposedly sells well here. Let's just say that from my experience it's all bullshit orchestrated by the big money entertainment companies and has nothing to do with talent or quality. People will never hear the majority of good music out there because it'll never get onto Clear Channel stations.
I saw Tool open for Metallikasslickers many years ago and they were amazing. I miss my Tool bumpersticker.
