what are the rules? how does one be a winner? not for me of course, since i'm genetically a loser...but for the others, i'm sure they'd like to know.

Also, if you enter a particular category, does that mean all the routes you climb have to be within that category? Or is it just to help you decide what category to enter? i.e. If I enter Advanced, do the points I gather on a 5.9 count toward my total? Or just the points I gather on 5.11- to 5.12+ routes?

It would be nice to have a beginner/intermediate category. New people or those not as strong are often excluded from this aspect of climbing and it would be cool to give them the opportunity to fully participate as well.

This will be a total points comp with us reserving the right to limit the open/elite category to the a certain number of routes (i.e. top 10 scores). The ratings given for the categories mean you should enter that category if that is the range you climb in.

more comp info:
points are given for the number of bolts clipped on redpoint, two tries max.
first try: two points per bolt
second try: one point per bolt
if you fall and get back on, you don't get points for the bolts you clip after falling. only bolts clipped while still clean from the ground count.
for example: route x has eight bolts, two anchors
climber a
1st attempt: gets 4 bolts up and falls = 8 points
2nd attempt: redpoint = 10 points
total: 18 points
climber b
1st attempt: redpoint = 20 points
2nd attempt: redpoint = 10 points
total: 30 points
climber c
1st attempt: gets 4 bolts and falls = 8 points
2nd attempt: gets 3 bolts and falls = 3 points
total: 11 points
got it?
whole point: the more you climb, the more points you get. enduro-fest essentially.
there will be three categories each for men and women: novice/intermediate, advanced, and open. if you sandbagged yourself, we'll bump you.
register at miguel's until 10am. you'll have to listen to the rules and access issues before you get a scoresheet.. so try to be on time.
it's at torrent (open only to competitors, please carpool) so it's a chance to get out there, climb some, and maybe pick up a few bucks and schwag. hope to see you there.
