drive bys with a shotgun can be quite difficult I would think..not at all efficient if you have to reload.

It reads proper. The investigators are saying that the dead man they found in the ditch on Sunday was killed. However, doesn't take a genuis to find a better way of wording it.

At least it's not "a killed man was found dead", but then again, maybe we'll see that headline at some point too.
