9th year. My big breakthrough came about a year ago when I started climbing to have fun and not be so serious about it. Because of that I'm climbing more routes when I go out and also climbing stronger than I have in the past. Also I feel way more excited to climb routes of any grade and any type........not *just* hard routes.

I've been climbing for about 7-8 years. While I can think of lots of great experiences and accomplishments, I don't think that I've had anything that I'd call a 'breakthrough'. Its been gradual improvement over time. (With the occasional lost ground or setback) Most importantly, it's been continuously fun!

Just last weekend I broke through several tree limbs falling off a route.

i've been climbing for about 3.5 years now. the first year, all i climbed was routes and i was able to get to .12a in less than 12 months...the next year, progress slowed down a bit, and just getting to mid-.12's was a HUGE challenge. then i pretty much stopped climbing on a rope, and all i did was go bouldering. now i'm burned out on that, and all i've been doing for the past 4 months is sport climbing, and i've made huge gains. so, it seems like from reading quite a few of the comments above, bouldering seems to be a big key to breaking through plateaus at any level.

i started climbing 12 years ago. take away 2 years that i had to take care of my mom because she had a bad stroke.that leaves me with 10 years the first year back from taking care of my mom was really hard i had lost so much motavation, skill and strength.last year was my breakthruogh thaks to partyboy ,my first 10 trad lead, with all of those years of mostly trad climbing one would think i would be a solid 5.11 crack climber, but im not thanks to my mental state or lake there of.last weekend i bagged my second 5.10 lead headstone surfer(dissapointed to hear it was down gradded to 10a)thanks to partyboy

I have been climbing since June of last year. Breakthroughs seem near constant, but maybe that's because everything is still so new and cool. Last week, I did my first pull-up ever. Today I got my first 5.6 onsight. I wonder what will happen next week?
