No argument here.
Exceptions: sudden onset of a tropical disease, or sudden onset of bovine spongiform encephalitis (mad cow), or all holds break-making the route impassable or etc.
as modus operandi , no.

Something to think about though... I was leaving the PMRP for Cincy on Saturday and on the chimney of the friction slab was a couple of very out of shape adults goofing around. The one had shimmied up the chimney nearly to the top. To somehow fall off of that would get them hurt for sure. So, I'll take some clown stick clipping up a 5.9 over that any day. At least I won't have to carry the stick clipper out of the crag.

Also, in the Red top rope opportunities are limited if not non-existent. So, if someone is a sub 5.8 climber this may be the best bet. Or, on Jump for joy, they could whip trying to get the second clipped and wind up stuck between the boulder and the wall. Again, having to be carried out of the crag. I think what I would have done was offered to put their rope up for them. Then, if they were dicks about it I'd get on here and flame them.

So why would it be OK for a 5.14 climber to stick clip up a 5.13, but wrong for a 5.8 climber to stick clip up a 5.9?
