Lighter and cheap are the best. If you don't mind rapping down, I have used a loop of webbing through the hanger. And if you are low, tie in the end of the rope to the webbing and rap down two other strands pulled up.Once down, pull the end tied to the webbing to remove it. That way there is no evidence or trash left on the route. If that ain't gonna do it, use a cheap steel bail biner. I use the smaller ones. And I try not to let it happen too often.

i would imagine the difference is in materials. a stainless quick link (that is generally what they are called) is going to be more expensive than a plain steel one. you don't really need stainless, a normal steel one should be fine. i use quick links on occasion to bail from routes but i am not telling you it is 100% safe to do so don't come suing me when/if you hurt yourself

Dude stick clip.

How many bolts have you stick clipped up to get to the anchors ? At some point I would think that you would realize it just ain't right. If you are over your head, just bail.

I'm with Andrew.....stick clipping is the way to go....doesn't mean your in over your head.

Somehow I just can't justify stick clipping up six bolts to get to the anchors. The embarassment factor alone would force me down. But you are saying keep going to get to the anchors. Is this to get down safely or just to finish the route?

I can relate. I once stick clipped past the 11 section of a route. I thought the rest of the route was pretty cool even though I couldnt get up the crux without aiding.
Iff the whole thing was too hard I wouldn't have bothered.

Usually you only have to stick clip through one section, not the next six bolts. But it has been a long time since I have sucked.
