Mill Creek Lake is nice--no motors allowed, it's a nice afternoon or evening paddle and has a fair amount of wildlife to view if you are patient enough. One evening this summer we caught 4 big mouth bass in one of the coves in the space of an hour.

Swift creek does have a trout population and I think that now that they are spawning (oct/nov) they might be a bit more hungry than the lethargic hot summer months.

Indian Creek is stocked but you would have to deal with the craziness of truck/car campers that blight the area...

a few miles south of Lexington is the Dix River (accessed via the KY river at Wilmore). The river has a natural thermocline and is stocked with trout who love the cold, cold water. It's a gem of a river that doesn't see a lot of traffic and it's really close to LEX...

Caught over 20 large mouth at Lago Linda's in the morning and evening hours...
I paddled the Canoe and my kids pulled in one after another without much of a break in the action.
