Ive been a caver for about thirty years and climbing was part of movement in caves. I tried it on its own merit and really liked it. Now I rarely cave more than once or twice a year. In climbing compared to caving: you can see, it's cleaner, its lighter (weight wise), no cleaning up mud afterwards, doesn't uasually take a long time, its drier, and sometimes there's pizza afterwards.

You should ask kirker about soloing nasty 5.2 OW in boots after beers. At least he was kind enough to trail a rope so I could TR the thing.

After getting used to being in danger (shot at or blown up) your need for adrenaline is like crack to a junky, it wears off quicker, and you always need more. I got into the Martial Arts thing out of a fear of getting my face beat in, then I got into protective work because of the inherent risk in it as well. I rappelled in the Army and remembered some of the best rushes were Aussie style out the back of a Chinook into a forest canopy over Tennesee. I was invited to rappell in the Gorge, saw a guided rappell off a waterfall at Torrent, convinced the wife to jump off too, Nicole told me if we liked to go down we would probably love to climb up.
We did a half n half day of Rappel and climbing, we were hooked, it's all been UPHILL since then (ha!ha!)
