I think there are several criteria...

I have to come back another day, after several attempts the previous day...

and/or

I forego all other climbing that day to focus on this one route.

Then its a project.

That said, I hate projecting. I much prefer onsighting.

Project- a long term monogamous intimate relationship with a route which can last just a weeks or span seasons.

Lurk: Isn't your current project just getting to a crag?

I don't think a route is a project is a project unless:

1. You fall asleep dreaming of the route, move after move.

2. While in a corporate meeting, you find yourself doodling on a paper. You're drawing out the route, move after move.

3. You talk incessantly about the route, move after move.

4. You write poetry (or a rap song) about the route. Right, Yasmeen?

Pigsteak if you feel that way you should vote Any Desirable Route. That is what I kinda ment by that.

Rollo I bet you change your tune. Unless you are Chriss you will not want to get on ALL the sub
5.10 routes at the Red. Not to say you will fall in love with Projecting. We will see.

I am with you Yasmeen.

Lurkist I loved your post. When I first read it I thought it said Monotonous. I felt like I was picking up on some bad vibes between you and your project. But it is says Monogamous. I am definitely not that. I have a bunch of projects. My precious-es.

Hmmm....
I love chewing on this question.

And I think it sucks that it seems so much cooler to say I am working on 5.x super hard classic route than to say: I am out there sending as much relatively hard stuff as I can.

woman,

it only sucks because you have not learnt the way of the subtle spray...throw out "I was working this heinous 14c in August, but decided no one would believe me when I sent it at 2 PM in the sun, so I decided to work on my endurance by lapping all Kenny's routes at Purgatory..."

That is subtle, and believable.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.

I agree with woman, though I just find it funny.

That was me.

Notice the subtlety. I didn't even say anything about climbing, but now everyone knows that I work on 12's.

Andrew, your spray still needs some work. Now that you've SENT A 5.13!!!!, you should just change your signature line to "CHECK MY SPRAY LIST!" or "http://www.redriverclimbing.com/RRCGuid ... .php?id=56" if you want to save them a mouse click.
