thanks to all..I have heard that many times, that climbing in the shade even at red rocks is totally do-able. we will be staying at the new resort right at the entrance to the canyon loop, so our commute should be pretty easy.
this is my fourth trip to vegas to climb, but I have never been up to "chuck"...

I totally agree, being in the canyon and in the shade feels 20 degrees cooler than being in the full sun on the Strip. I climbed over on the shady side of Mescalito when I was there...Y2K and Dark Shadows are good routes. Most of the routes in Black Velvet Canyon are shady, as well. (I did Frogland last year and it is stellar).

Dark Shadows was fun (I'm glad I didn't end up leading the 7ish dihedral pitch, though!) If you haven't been out to Black Velvet, give Prince of Darkness a shot - I never thought I'd have so much fun on an endless slab!
Hey - are you staying at Red Rocks? If so, let us know how it is. I played a little $5 blackjack out there last year (broke even and walked away, phew!) The casino looked great and the rooms look great on the web, so I'm curious what you think (if that's where you're staying)
