A fabric store will have regular old foam of varying thicknesses, lengths and widths. I looked there for stuff for the back of my van. I'd check there, but some of them can be pricey especially the 4 and 5 inch thick stuff. Although, I imagine, cheaper than that fancy dancey memory foam stuff. A few layers of carpet padding would be really comfy as well if you don't want super thick foam (which I think can get hot to sleep on in the summer).

jenn and I have 2 layers of closed cell camp pads covered with a layer of "eggcrate" foam for a 2" thick cushion of happy sleep.

Just remember, some foams offgas some really toxic stuff. Putting them in an enclosed space like a car will multiply the effect.

go to Jo-ann fabrics or similar large sewing store (like cch said), they have it in all kinds of thicknesses. I used 3" open cell foam, 2" would have been plenty. My lovely wife covered it with vinyl covered fabric so it is easy to clean......super comfy! I have had it for several years. The foam was a bit expensive.

if you go down to knoxville theres a foam store there that you can have custom cut foam and they also have a large selection of thicknesses and densities. Also if you wanna give the foam that I got from there a try. I got it set up in the back of the diesel! hint hint

Hey Yasi,
If you lay a deflated air matress in the back of your car and then inflate it, but not totally tight then it will form to the back of your car.
I have one with an auto air pump.
Works for me!

they've always been just fine. if anything they're a little stiff when you first lay down but you're body warms them up in a couple minutes. i've never had any troubles with them..

paul, i'm presuming you weren't using a, what i called, "heavy guage" memory foam. last i recall there was a 1,2,3,4...system and we got a "4" however that rates and the thing was a solid piece of rock. i'm sure "lighter guages" don't have the same problem maybe because they are less dense.

Yasgini, you've slept on my pads. I wrapped two of the scored foam toppers from Walmart in an old down comforter. I stitched the comforter with dental floss for long wear. Under $30 for twin size.
