Rope is one of those single pieces of protection that isn't backed up (unless you're using duoble or twin ropes: highly unlikely for the red) so if there is any doubt at all .......retire it!
Mammut gives the following life spans for rope.
Never used .......10 years max
Rarely used: twice per year........up to 7 years
Occasionally used: once per month........up to 5 years
Regularly used: several times per month.........up to 3 years
Frequently used: each week........up to 1 year
Constantly used: almost daily........... less than 1 year

Thats why I said its one of the pieces of protection, and same goes for any piece of gear. My life isn't worth saving a few bucks to get extra mileage out of gear. But to each its own.

old rope = door mat

you could donate it to muir valley - i see they use old ropes to mark off the protected lily patches.

I've never heard of a TR breaking in use. Has anybody else? For sure don't lead on it.
