oh god, I guess I have to clarify this for everyone. First off, climbing is like a relationship with a woman.
Lets say you like epic multi-day mountain climbing - your married
Lets say you like the full day multipitch trad rout - you have a fiance
Multipitch sport - you are pretty serious
day trip trad climbing - you are in a relationship
day trip sport rout enthusiast - one night stand
Bouldering - masterbation

Climbing....climbing is for pussies. Period. Too scared to ride a bull, hanglide, swim with sharks, make meth, stay out late, walk thru nada at night, eat shit that's not organic, play in traffic or whatever. I need a rope, i need a belayer, watch me i might fall. Total P factor of 1000. Thats Pussy to the extreme.
Homos.

SCIN wrote:Onsiting a trad line is less of a true attempt at the line because of all the fiddling around with protection one must do. It's kind of like having to solve little math problems and puzzles and rubiks cubes while you climb. It's just not as pure as sport climbing.
What does "SCIN" stand for again?
I think this poll is kind of bogus. The discussion is good, but the quote contradicts itself. First it says that you have to onsight at your "level" then it says you can project your "level". Which should it be?

Sport Climbing is Neither
I'm serious though. Gearing up for a trad line anymore feels like I'm putting a costume on to climb. How can climbing a line with shit dangling all over you feel as pure as heading up a line with just a rope and chalk bag (draws pre-hung)? Doesn't mean one is better than the other. I'm just saying I think the whole "trad is pure" is bullshit. It sure don't feel pure. Climbing without having to think about protection is pure climbing.....focused on movement not rubiks cube solving.

Does any of it really matter when you are outside doing what you want to be doing with the people you want to be doing it with? Otherwise, if you are not soloing, you might as well just stay at home and do something else that will never measure up to a definition.
