There is a PMRP donation flyer/sign on the kiosk at Miguel's. Who has seen it? It needs to be replaced as weather has gotten too it. It would be easy to put similar signs at the kiosks in Sore Heel, Coal Bank, Drive-by parking areas. Getting e-mail addresses from waiver forms and adding them to the database is another way to get unaware climbers into the loop. In the spring we had conducted a couple "meet & greets" at the crag to inform those who may not know about the PMRP. PM me if you would be interested in volunteering to do "meet & greet" duty next spring.

I would be willing to weld up a box on a metal pole that would be difficult to break into. If it was put into concrete and the lock placed up into the box, like the locks use to be for service road 9's gate. A person would have to work pretty hard to steal whats inside without destroying it.
Anyway if the powers to be want it PM me and I'll make it happen.

unfortunately the locals will have the time to work those boxes out of the ground. They would probably even go as far as to bring their own torches out and cut the damn thing off. It's quicker that way and they dont care about destroying the box or not. oh yeah ask Mark how the donation thing worked out.... It's just not going to happen. there a certain few people who will donate regulary, but lets face it the vast majority of climbers are selfish douche bags who think that everything should be handed to them for free. I think a daily/yearly membership would be great and if they dont pay and are climbing in the preserve...have their asses towed out. It only takes one to get the point across. That will be the biggest problem though enforcing the membership. People are paying $15 a day to climb in the Gunks these days!!!!! Thats outrageous! But you can still buy a season pass for around $75. So if your a local its a huge deal! I dunno thats only my opinion. I hate most everyone so I see the glass just about empty.

You are proably right about the box being a waste of time, but I'm confident it could be built to ware the contents inside would burn up with any attempt to break in. The only other method would be a slow methodical approach with an expensive cut off wheel and they would proably have more money tied up in breaking in than they would get out of the box.

4wheel drive and a chain. just drag the box home. at some point more is going to be spent building the box then it will receive in donations.

reach high would be the first to rob them.

huge signs are a great idea in the parking lot...something that says "free climbing isn't free"

or better yet, make climibng in the preserve by members only. you pay $50 a year or go somewhere else. man, would I be a great board member or what?

I think you would be a great board member, are you up to the challenge?

A shotgun and a 12 gauge slug will take care of the lock. Why risk messing up your truck when a $.30 slug will take care of the problem.

Keep a donation box at miguel's and one at rro's if they will allow it and call it a day on the boxes in the gorge. Keep the paypal link and a running total on rrgcc.org and here if ray will allow it. Have members here ask their local gym owners real nice like if they would put up a donation box for the PMRP.

we have one at the shop and i thought miguel did as well. i agree that a cash box in the sr would be a bad idea, it would not last long at all.

Pete is right, the box would be stolen. Even if they can't open it I don't think it'll deter them from taking it. The gyms here in Louisville have donation boxes, and I have seen them at Miguels and the Outdoors. Does the Shell station have one? I know they are donating money to the coalition, and I think they are selling our stickers now too, right? Maybe they wouldn't mind having a box at the counter.....

Just like in the recent Dukes of Hazzard movie.

Seriously folks, charging for access has been discussed but this would negate liability protection under the Kentucky Recreational Use Statute.

The donation containers have been working well. They have been working especially well where the business is actively involved by offering a sticker, etc. for a donation. At RockQuest bhuff makes bracelets out of old rope sheaths and offers them for a donation. Perhaps we could get some of the M16 bouldering brushes Doc picked up out to the businesses to offer for a donation?

IMO our efforts would be much better spent working on our online "donation box", the RRGCC website. Continual improvements to the site are being worked on. We can always use more volunteer help in the website area for those that have the skills.

Again, PM me if you are interested in volunteering to assist in any aspect of our fundraising efforts.
